About Glitter and Grey

Welcome to Glitter and Grey
In August 2012, my fiancé and I both moved to Hong Kong from our hometown of Ottawa, Ontario (Canada). We packed our bags and hopped on a plane over the Pacific to this bustling, skyscraper city primarily because my fiancé is enrolled at the University of Hong Kong as a Master's student. I came along, since, well... why not! Having never lived anywhere but Ottawa, moving to Hong Kong was an opportunity for an amazing adventure that I could not turn down.

This past summer of 2012, I was preparing for a career change (from public servant to elementary school French teacher), but a marriage proposal from my then-boyfriend of four years, turned fiancé, ended up being thrown into the mix. So, here we are in Hong Kong, slowly adjusting to our new life together, halfway around the world!

The reason behind the name "Glitter and Grey" is because of the glorious, glittery lights of the Hong Kong skyline that welcomed me on the night that I arrived in this city, but also because of the grey skies that seem to be more of a common sight here than the clear blue that I know exists beyond the dense layer of smog. The main motivation behind this blog was to keep loved ones updated, but I also hope to post about new things that I have learned about living in this international metropolis and about my experiences as a Canadian far from home in Hong Kong(crete).

While I am here, I endeavour to be seeing more of Hong Kong's glitter than grey, and that you (whoever decides to read my ramblings) enjoy the adventure with me through this blog. With this, I say 唔該 M̀h'gōi (thank you/merci) for reading Glitter and Grey.
